Akufo-Addo sacks Sarah Adwoa Safo as Gender minister
Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya and the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo has been sacked by President Akufo-Addo according to official communication from the presidency.
“In accordance with article 81 (a) of the constitution, the president of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has revoked the appointment of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, member of parliament for Dome Kwabenya, as minister for Gender, children and social protection, with immediate effect,“ the Eugene Arhin communique stated.
The Dome-Kwabenya MP has been in the limelight for a long time following her prolonged absence from Parliament without permission a situation that prompted the Speaker to task the Privileges Committee to investigate and report to the house for further action.
Together with two other parliamentarians from the ruling NPP, Adwoa Safo was supposed to meet the Committee to present her reasons but she refused to make herself available to the Committee despite her two other colleagues submitting themselves to the Committee for questioning.
According to reports, the Committee submitted its report without a conclusive decision on the former Deputy Majority Leader. The Majority group in Parliament has openly expressed their desire to see her seat declared vacant but the Minority surprisingly finds reasons to think otherwise per the feed this portal has gathered.
However, with Akufo-Addo taking the bold decision to relieve her of her position, she may be facing doubling sacking if Parliament decides to declare her seat vacant.
