A leaked communique exposes the government’s plans to PR to silence critics
According to a leaked government document, President Akufo-Addo and his cabinet have planned to use the media and public relations to ride through the turbulence that the economic hardships have brought on the country.
In the communique dated October 20, 2022, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare instructed all Ministers and Chief Executives Officers to be very active on social media to respond to all allegations in the public. It further instructed that those who do not have social media accounts should contact the Information Ministry for assistance to set up accounts for them.
“All Government appointees including Ministers and Chief Executive Officers, should provide comprehensive responses to allegations made in the public domain within 12 hours of the allegation being brought to their attention. The Minister concerned should work with the Minister for Information to disseminate the response,” part of the statement read.
Also, “All Government appointees including Ministers and Chief Executive Officers, should make themselves available for deployment on radio and television shows to speak generally about the Government’s activities, and particularly, activities concerning their Ministries or institutions”.
