A leader who cares will attend to his people in crisis- Ablakwa to Akufo-Addo
Legislator for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is not enthused about what he considers the seeming silence of President Akufo-Addo on the plight of some people in the Volta Region who were hit by tidal waves.
He took a swipe at the president and called on him to channel that same energy he uses to react during foreign tragedies into current happenings in some parts of the Volta Region.
“President Nana Akufo-Addo’s conduct since this national tragedy is totally unacceptable. When this happened, I expected him to have cancelled his trip to Cape Verde. He should have driven some three-hour journey to visit the victims.
“That is what you expect from leaders who care for their people. Not even a statement or a tweet [about the tidal waves]. Not a Facebook post acknowledging what is happening. This is a President who is quick to comment on tragedies that are happening elsewhere,” Mr. Ablakwa complained.
Some residents in Communities along the Keta-Aflao stretch are now living in fear following the tidal waves that washed away some homes especially Salakope and Amutinu, the hardest hit of the several communities affected by the disaster.
“There is no place to relocate the people to. The banks of the lagoon would’ve been the safest, but that has also flooded as the sea rises” the Assembly Member for Agavedzi Electoral Area said
The Assembly Member, Ebenezer Assah, also lamented that if the situation is not addressed by the government in time, the sea will split the road and cause greater havoc to residents.
This situation had led to a serious disagreement between two lawmakers, Member of Parliament for South Dayi Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor and that of Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah on the foyer of Ghana’s Parliament leading to a near scuffle.
This was due to the authenticity of a picture used by the majority side in a press statement on the current tidal waves disaster that hit parts of the Volta Region.
The Minority disagreed with their[Majority] claims in the press conference and that led to the clash between the two lawmakers.
