1000s Lose Properties As Another Fires Razes Down Kantamanto
The season of Christmas has fast taken shape and with less than 10 days to Christmas and 15 days to New year. There should be cause for excitement from all walks of lives and traders at Kantamanto should be no exception but that seems to be a dream rather than a reality as a Wednesday dawn fire wreaks havoc.
The fire which started shortly after midnight, Wednesday morning burnt down 100s of shops sparing none in its path. Traders were seen gathered in groups lamenting their loses as many sat saddened by the incident.
When Active TV reporter arrived at the fire scene minutes before 6am, officers from the Ghana National Fire Services were seen busily trying to douse what remains of the merciless fire. Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces were at hand to provide security as the team from GNFS work to quench the fire.
This brings to two the number of fire incidents that occured at the area within last month and this month. Fire burnt parts of the GCB Bank Liberty House branch at Kantamanto two days to the end of November. Away from Kantamanto, fire gutted the Odawna pedestrian mall at the Kwame Nkrumah circle also in Accra in the same month of November rendering many hopeless until MASLOC intervened by offering traders loans to restart their businesses.
