Thorough investigation needed to clear ghost names from the payroll – Internal Audit Agency boss

The Head of Internal Audit Agency, Dr Eric Oduro Osea has demanded the development of a robust programme to thoroughly deal with ghost names on the government the payroll.

During an interview on TV3, Dr Osea lamented the failure of the managers and Chief Executive Officers of most public institutions to meticulously check the payroll, indicating that in case a probe commences nobody should be shielded.

Mr Osea comments follows a revelation by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that a process had been initiated to match biometric details of workers in the National Identification Authority’s data and the that of the Controller and Accountant General Department and it uncovered that about 148,000 workers had multiple identities.

According to Dr Bawumia, a report will be generated after the exercise and those found culpable of cheating the system will be dealt with.
