Mahama donates GHS100,000 to help save Sofoline Central Mosque

Former president John Dramani Mahama has made a commitment to pay off the remaining balance for the acquisition of the Sofoline Central Mosque land in Kumasi. He pledged an amount of GHC100,000.00 to help the Ghanaian Muslim community in Kumasi to acquire the land. 

The Sofoline Central Mosque land was given to the Muslim Community by President Kwame Nkrumah without legal documentation as reports have it. It was later sold to an individual of which the Muslim Community had no knowledge of. The owner of the land on several occasion tried to retrieve the land from management of the Mosque. 

However, the legal owner of the land subsequently agreed to sell the land to the Muslims community with a price tag of GHC280,000.00.

A foundation called Peace Dawah Media together with the Management of the Mosque in trying to save the situation was able to raise half of the total amount (GHC170,000.00) but need at least GHC100,000.00 to complete it. Upon chancing on a video of the issue at hand, the former president pledged to pay the remaining balance which is GHC100,000.00 after being told the extra GHC10,000.00 realized later. 

The CEO of Peace Dawah Media, Alifa Salal in an interview with myactiveonline.com expressed joy at the gesture and  stated that the former president has brought relief to the Muslim community.

“We want use this platform to say a very big thank you and our appreciation to former President,” Alifa Salal, CEO of Peace Dawah Media.

He concluded that a delegation, which will be led by one Mustapha Masloc will hand over the donation to Peace Dawah Media on 20th August.
