The Lands and Natural Resources Ministry has clarified that it is not its mandate to compensate Appiatse residents who were hit by an explosion in their town earlier this year leaving 14 people dead and others with varying degrees of injuries.

However, it assured that it would not renege in its efforts to solicit more funds to handle the rebuilding of the community and aid especially affected residents.

To tackle the issue of displacement, government has been urged to speed up the process of rebuilding the community.

The government in trying to rebuild the community and aid victims of the incident initiated the support fund to handle these issues.

GHS35 million has been accrued by the Appiatse Development Fund so far.

An appeal was made to Ghanaians by the Ministry to support a good course and complete the rebuilding process and aid the members of the community.

The recent visit to the community by Former President Mahama on Tuesday where he urged the government to compensate the victims triggered this clarification from the Ministry.
