Agitations by teacher unions concerning the contract extension of Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service,  Mr Anthony Boateng have received full support from Mr Peter Notsu Kotoe, ranking member of the Education Committee of Parliament.

Considering the time, Mr Anthony Boateng was supposed to retire the legislator believes he has been given enough opportunity to exhibit his expertise on the job.

“He, Mr Boateng was supposed to have been on retirement some four years ago and has already had two term appointments from the president so I do not see the need for the extension of his contract as he is not going to bring anything new on board to make things better within the Ghana Education Service,” Mr Kotoe pointed out during an interview on Citi FM.

The Ministry of Education does not seem moved by the agitations made by teacher unions as it continues to insist that Mr Boateng’s expertise is needed which is why his contract was extended again.

Since the controversial extension of the contract of Mr Anthony Boateng, the various teacher’s unions like the National Association of Graduate Teachers, Ghana National Association of Teachers, Tertiary Education Workers Union and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers have all mounted pressure on Mr Anthony Boateng not to accept the offer.
