Government Statistician Underscores The Importance Of Census

Government statistician Professor Samuel Anim has underscored the need for the census as it helps plan towards national development.

The statistician also indicated how the censuses help the government plan out its policies. He said this during his preparatory tour towards the census at the Sekondi Coordinating Council in the Western Region.

He said “accuracy of data will serve as a good basis for government’s planned policies/”

A census officer in the Western Region Mr Ernest Nyarko also revealed that they have identified localities where they would conduct the census exercise. He advised that people ought to be recruited from the localities to enable them to relate to the respondents to freely give out information during the exercise.

The government statisticians tour is in preparation for the National Census exercise where Ghanaians are counted every ten years to know our exact number as a country.

This census is the delayed 2020 Population and Housing Census which was postponed as a result of Covid-19. The census will start on 27th June 2021 with that Sunday marked as the “Census Night”.
