First anniversary of Rawlings’ death to be marked on November 12

The family of former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, has announced a Remembrance Mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral to mark the first anniversary of his passing.

A statement issued to that effect stated that the anniversary will take place on November 12, 2021, at 9:00 am, all guests are to be in white attire.

 Mr Kobina Andoh Amaka, the former aide of late President Rawlings in a statement, invited friends, sympathizers and the general public to join in the first anniversary.

“Due to Covid-19 requirements, the Holy Spirit Cathedral will host a limited number of congregants. Seating will thus be on a first-come, first-served basis”, he said.

The NDC in a statement signed by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia noted that the anniversary should be commemorated at all party levels. This was concluded by the board members of the party.

“That 12th November 2021 should be observed with various activities, including vigils and mass gatherings, with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol, to commemorate the event,” the statement said.

It’s been a year now since President Jerry John Rawlings passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday, November 12, 2020, after a short illness.

He was President of the Republic of Ghana from 1993 to 1996 and 1996 to 2001 after winning the 1992 presidential election on the ticket of the NDC.

Late President Rawlings was the first President of the Fourth Republic, winning its first election after coming through a coup that toppled the government of Dr Hila Liman.
