With the numerous misinformation, misconception and myths surrounding the Covid-19 vaccines which have caused some level of vaccine hesitancy amongst the citizenry, the President has seized the opportunity to dispel such myths against the vaccines during his 27th speech to update Ghanaians on how the virus has been managed so far.

“The vaccines are safe. They will not harm you. They will protect you and your families,” he said during his address to the nation on Wednesday, December 15 2021.

The worried President gave an instance where there are erroneous claims that the vaccine could compel one to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Getting vaccinated will not cause you to vote for the NPP in the 2024 elections if you do not want to. This is an outrageous claim. Vaccination cannot change your political preference.”

The month of December has been declared vaccination month by the Ghana Health Service and its partners though there is some sort of vaccine hesitancy amongst the citizenry.

A strict rule has also been implemented to support this cause at one of Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport, requiring all arriving passengers to show proof of vaccination or be vaccinated against the virus at the airport.

Though the year is drawing to its end very fast, President Akufo-Addo is optimistic about Ghana meeting its targeted 20 million people it wants to inoculate.

As it stands now Ghana has 17.7 million vaccine doses in the country, of which only 6.4 million have been administered.

“We are expecting an additional 18,529,090 doses by the end of the year,” the President said.

With the expected increase in vaccine doses, President Akufo-Addo further stressed that “we have enough vaccines in the system.”

“I encourage each and every one of you to take advantage of this and get vaccinated,” the President said to the nation.

So far, Ghana has detected 131,840 cases of the coronavirus, with 1,253 deaths and 927 active cases.
