Buduburam Camp residents to resist planned demolition of the area
A planned demolishing exercise to be carried out at Gomoa Buduburam camp on Thursday, September 30, 2021, has been fiercely resisted by some residents as they besieged the Gomoa Buduburam Camp Police, station clad in red black attire to express their displeasure about the planned exercise.
The frustrated residents bemoaned the fact that most residents will the displaced should the demolition exercise be carried out.
Calls have been made to the government by the custodians of Gomoa Buduburam that is Chiefs of Gomoa Fetteh for a total demolishing of the area to curb the crime rate as it is believed to be a contributing factor to the high crime rate in Kasoa and its environs.
But some residents have however debunked that claim that the enclave harbours criminals and want the government to reconsider its decision.
A resident who has lost hope revealed the fact that they wrote a letter to the Interior Ministry to reconsider its decision but to no avail.
The Buduburam enclave mainly hosted Liberians and Sierra Leoneans who sought asylum in Ghana during the unrest in their respective countries and was opened by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in 1990 but is currently hosting other foreign nationals as well.
District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm in July 2021 revealed that plans are far advanced as the district with the support of government and chiefs of the community had gotten the green light to carry out the exercise.
