Education think tank, Africa Education Watch has expressed its reservations about details in a contract between the Education Ministry and TANIT limited and threatened to petition the special prosecutor about the situation.

The think tank is pushing for a legal suit from the Education Ministry to demand a refund of GH¢859,000 from the company including other losses incurred as a result of the delayed execution of the contract.

Details of the contract stipulate that TANIT limited was supposed to use its expertise to create a digital teacher training content and platform supervised by the GALOP project with November 21 being the deadline.

The Education Ministry later revealed that TANIT  LTD could not deliver on schedule, unfortunately causing the said contract to expire.

“We are aware that the Ministry has since written to TANIT LTD for a refund of the initial payment of GH¢ 859,000 for which TANIT LTD is rather insisting on the payment of the remaining GH¢4.9 million based on its claim that the contract was completed regardless of the delay,” African Education Watch said in its statement.

It added that the contract in essence did not give value for money as the Ministry eventually had to resort to existing platforms to train 40,000 teachers which TANIT was supposed to do.

Also, it expressed dislike for the fact that the TANIT contract with the Education Ministry was soled source.
