Lilwin ploughs back profit into Kumawood movie industry
Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin had spent over $800,000 on his three Kumawood series, all in an attempt to gather the big stars to rekindle interest in local films.
This move Mr Nkansah believes will aid Kumawood rise again to produce attractive shows on local screens.
Lilwin stated that the enormous investment in the local film business was targeted toward keeping the sector vibrant ahead of the release of his recent series “Papano,” which featured stars like Mame Dokono, Adwoa Smart, and Komfour Kolege, among others.
“We are aware of the challenges Kumawood has gone through in recent years especially with some movie producers unable to fund movie projects.
“So with my God-given talent as an actor, I needed to take a giant step towards reigniting the love of local movies. That is why I decided to invest in it by bringing on board all actors,” Mr Nkansah recounted.
He further stated that “Recruiting musicians onset is also to give Kumawood the needed traction and a new phase because I want to see Kumawood rise again,” he told Ghana News Agency in an interview.
Lilwin went on to say that he is unconcerned about the potential losses, but that he wants to delight his fans and stay relevant in the film industry.
Lilwin urged his fellow performers – actors and actresses to help revive the Kumawood industry and put an end to the backstabbing so that investors would come on board and support it.
The multi-award-winning actor also debunked accusations that he is picky about who he hires on set, adding that everyone is welcome if the job is right for them.
Lilwin has recently wowed moviegoers with a slew of fascinating serial dramas, including Cocoa Season, Police Academy, and Agya Bofo, among others.
