MTN Customers To Pay More For Data And Call From 1st May
Customers of MTN Ghana (Scancom PLC) will soon be expected to pay more for data and talk time due to the 1% increase in the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL). MTN Ghana is scheduled to implement the levy, by May 1, 2021, which would be passed on to consumers.
According to a statement by the telecom giant, the company will pass the levy which was instituted by government to help it recover from the Covid-19 economic downturn on its customers come the beginning of next month.
“Scancom PLC wishes to inform you that following the introduction of the Covid-19 recovery levy, which has resulted in a 1% increase in the National Health Insurance Levy, talk time and data charges have been adjusted to reflect the tax change,” the statement read.
The levy will increase the cost of services at a time of high demand for data for virtual meetings in the wake of the Covid-19. And it will not be surprising at all if other telecommunication companies in the country also follow suit.
MTN Ghana is so far the largest operator by subscribers, and its revenue lines increased significantly due to data subscriptions in the last year.
