The government is said to be instituting some measures to remedy the sorry economic situation and Finance Minister  Ken Ofori –Atta is scheduled to brief Ghanaians on the said measures this week.

A statement issued by the Information Ministry revealed this on Monday, March 21, 2022.

The impact of global economic difficulties on Ghana and the Ghanaian people among other things was discussed extensively at the Cabinet retreat held at Peduase Lodge in Aburi earlier this month the Ministry indicated.

Also, the statement revealed that President Akufo-Addo has approved several ‘far-reaching measures’ aimed at mitigating the depreciation of the Cedi, ensuring expenditure discipline, and providing relief in the face of global fuel price hikes and inflation as well as ensuring that priority programs meant to grow the economy are protected.

“The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta will later this week provide the details of measures after consultations with key social and economic stakeholders.”

“Government appreciates the efforts of all who contributed to a successful retreat and looks forward to the support of all Ghanaians in implementing the agreed measures.”

Ghanaians are witnesses to the turbulent times our economy is going through as it is plagued with a myriad of challenges, which includes rising inflation and the rising cost of fuel.

The cedi which is the country’s legal tender has also depreciated, especially against the US dollar, while the public debt level has attained an unsustainable level.

Various ideas and suggestions have been made to the government on how to remedy the situation including calls for the government to cut down on its expenditure.
