Seth Terkper - Former Minister of Finance

The government has been advised by former Finance Minister Seth Terkper to be forthright with Ghanaians as it commences its deliberations with the International Monetary Fund.

According to him, openness and fairness are needed for a successful program to bring the desired impact.

Mr Terkper during an interview on Citi TV said “no playing with figures so that we tell Ghanaians the true situation”.

“That is the only way in which they will understand and say, if you want to put a little money aside to repay debts, we are with you.”

He recommended that government needs to bring up structural measures and also equip institutions to be strong.

The former minister said, “President Obama told us we need leadership, strong leadership in Africa. The thing we need most are institutions”.

Looking at the issue at hand concerning the economy, Ghana will have to make tough decisions as it deals with the IMF.

“That is what we should be doing in the first place, and that is why we sacrificed current use of the oil revenue to set up a stabilisation fund,” Seth Terkper.
