Unvaccinated Zimbabweans worried about their fate even with new vaccine arrival
Zimbabwe procures 12 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines
Zimbabwe Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube announced that a sum of 92 million dollars was used to secure 12 million doses of vaccines from China and from the COVAX United Nations vaccine initiative.
The new doses of vaccines arrived on Sunday in Zimbabwe against the third wave of the delta virus now facing the country.
Speaking to the press Mr Ncube stated that the programme of vaccine acquisition continues to be very agreeable and that if it continues this way, it is very likely that the aim to achieve total vaccination will not be far from reach.
Little over one million, four hundred thousand Zimbabweans out of a fourteen million total population have been recorded to have received the first dosage of the vaccine so far. And nearly 680,000 have received first and second shots since the initiation of the vaccination programme in February this year.
In addition to this new acquisition, Zimbabwe is also now ready to accept the turned down Johnson and Johnson vaccine that had been procured by the African Union for its members with finance from the African Development Bank.
The John Himphone University that is checking the global outbreak of the pandemic has recorded the number of infected cases in Zimbabwe to be 970,277 and the death toll at 350.
Even though the chances of people getting vaccinated in the country has increased, the number of infected cases continues to spike due to shortages in supply which has left a vast number of the population unvaccinated.
The Deputy Health Minister John Mangwiro, however, assured Zimbabweans that with the arrival of a million doses of vaccines the vaccination programme will be intensified.
