We survived on Oranges and Coconuts -Two men rescued after being lost for 29 days at sea.
Two men, Livae and Junior from Solomon Island have finally been found off the coast of New Guinea which is 400 kilometre from where they started their journey, after being lost at sea for 29 days.
On September 3,2021, the men were said to have left Solomon Island on a single 60 horsepower motorboat. According to them, they planned of travelling to the town of Moro on Georgia Island but unfortunately for them, they encountered heavy rain and strong winds which made it difficult to be following the coastline they were intend to follow.
“We have done this before, when the bad weather came,it was bad,but it was worse and became scary when the GPS died, we couldn’t see where we were going and so we just decided to stop the engine and wait to save fuel.” Livea lamented.
Oranges, coconut and rainwater were the means of survival after being floated about 400km northwest. ” We didn’t know where we were but did not expect to be in another country” Livea added.
After being rescued by a fisher off the coast of New Guinea, they were taken to a local clinic and currently stays with a local named Joe Kolealo. Joe said ” Now they live happily with us”
Livea, in the other way saw their absence to be a break from everything and everyone.
“I had no idea what was going on while I was out there. I didn’t hear anything about covid- or anything else. I looked forward to going back home but I guessed it was a nice break for me” livea Said
