Russia strikes Ukraine’s major airports after launching an invasion on Thursday morning
Following an order by Russian President Vladimir Putin for Ukraine to be invaded at dawn in what is termed a ‘Special Military Operation’ following years of tensions, major explosions have been reported at some of the country’s major airports.
Footages have shown explosions at Ukrainian airports near some of the country’s major cities including Kharkiv and Mariupol in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to the Guardian, blasts from artillery rockets were filmed around 5 am near Mariupol in southern Ukraine. Some footage also showed smoke rising into the skies near the Kharkiv military airport.
Another video that has been shared on social media showed an explosion near the Ivano-Frankivsk airport in the western part of the country.
global leaders have warned of the consequence and predict it could lead to the biggest war since World War II.
Meanwhile, Kyiv has declared martial law and says Ukraine will defend itself.
