Ghana To Host Twitter Headquarters In Africa
Social media giant Twitter has disclosed that it will establish its first Africa office in Ghana.
The tech giant’s reasons for choosing Ghana are numerous and they enumerated them. Its statement noted the following, “a champion for democracy, Ghana is a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate.”
“Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa,” the statement added.
Ghana’s president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to Twitter to acknowledge the message from Twitter’s Jack Dorsey. “The choice of Ghana as HQ for Twitter’s Africa operations is EXCELLENT news. Gov’t and Ghanaians welcome very much this announcement and the confidence reposed in our country.” he tweeted.
That tweet was the first in a series of tweets from the president on the matter. Follow his thread below.
Several high profile government officials took to Twitter to acknowledge the message and the opportunities for Ghana. One such personality is Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who tweeted about the job opportunities the partnership brings.
Twitter joins other tech giants such as Facebook, Google and Microsoft in opening their offices in Africa.
