WAFU U20: Black Satellites come from behind to beat Burkina Faso to title

Ghana’s U20 male national team, the Black Satellites, came from a goal down to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 to the 2020 WAFU U20 title on Saturday at the Stade De Gaules Stadium in Porto Novo, Benin.

Burkina Faso dominated the early fifteen minutes of the game as the Black Satellites warmed themselves up into the game.

Kouame Jean Fiacre Botue capitalized on a defensive error to fire the ball pass goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad to give the Young Stallions the lead in the 15th minute.

Captain of the side, Daniel Afriyie, latched on to a free-kick from Precious Boah to pull the equalizer for the Satellites five minutes to first half break.

The Black Satellites escaped narrowly from going behind as Hamed Quattara hit Ghana’s crossbar in the dying minutes of the first half. The first department of the game ended 1-1.

It turned out to be a game of equals in the second half until forward, Precious Boah, struck in the 79th minute through a free-kick, once again, as he has done against Nigeria in the group stage.

The Burkinabe side complained it has not crossed the goal line, but the second linesman affirmed the referee’s decision.

The Black Satellites held onto the 2-1 lead with the game going past five minutes of additional time to clinch their first WAFU title in this category.

Ghana had already qualified for the 2021 U20 AFCON to be held in Mauritania before the finals, when they qualified for the final, beating Niger 5-3 on penalties.
