Sheriff Quaye to face Tanzania, Emmanuel Amos for WBO title
Sheriff Quaye, a Ghanaian lightweight boxer, has pledged to dazzle when he fights Tanzanian rival Emmanuel Amos on December 10 for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Africa lightweight title.
Sheriff says he’s been waiting for an opportunity like this to set him up on the path to a world title bid by 2022, and he’ll take full advantage of it. The 12-round bout will be held at the Royal Dede Golden Beach Resort in Korle Gonno, Accra.
Popularly referred to as ‘Onetime’ in boxing circles, Sheriff stated that “Many boxers in Ghana have been chasing this opportunity. Personally, I have also been hunting for this chance. Now that it’s here I will utilize it.
“I know what I’m capable of and this is the time to prove myself. I promise Ghanaians victory and a world title by 2022.”
Commending his trainer Carl Lokko, Sheriff acknowledged, “Carl makes me train hard and is making sure I’m in good shape ahead of the fight. Being in the camp of Carl is the right move for my career at this moment as we share the same vision of ensuring I become a world champion next year”
Sheriff is on track, according to Carl Lokko, who expressed confidence that he would make Ghanaians and boxing fans proud.
The boxer added that he would realize his true potential as a world-beater in the boxing arena under his new management.
Mr. Samir Captan, WBO Africa President and former president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), advised Sheriff to remain disciplined, focused, and serious, as a win will open many doors.
