Sharon Esinam Sampson: the 19-year-old Tamale-born footballer cum model
Sharon Esinam Sampson, a USA-based striker who is currently in camp with the Black Princesses in preparation for the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica next month has been the talk of the town and the toast of every media house in the country since the squad assembled this month.
She makes the headlines for various reasons but notably for her height, having been identified as the tallest in the squad, standing at a height of 1.72 metres.
Sharon, born in Tamale but raised in Sweden is an attacking midfielder who played for Telge United Södertälje FK, Hammarby IF and Assyriska FF.
The Tamale-born 19-year-old is currently studying at Oakland University in Michigan, USA, and is a key player for the school team, Golden Grizzlies. Sampson first played for the Princesses two years ago in an international friendly against Morocco.
However, her recent outing is going to be her biggest and she is excited about the prospects of representing the West African nation in the global event. She and her Black Princesses team will come up against current holders Japan, the USA and the Netherlands for one of the two slots to represent Group D in the next round when the tournament kicks off from August 10 to 28.
Sharon who is also a model has been signed up to a Stockholm-based modelling and creative agency FYE Management.
The team as part of its preparation will play a number of friendly matches before heading to Costa Rica for the tournament
The Black Princesses will be playing several friendly matches in Europe before flying to Costa- Rica for the tournament to make their sixth appearance. They have never gone beyond the ground stages but would hope to advance out of the group stage and hopefully, Sharon does not only turn heads with her height and business but will also turn heads with her goals.
