Resurgent King Faisal scatters Kotoko title dreams at Obuasi
King Faisal drew with Kotoko to dent Porcupine Warriors title hopes
Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s hopes of catching up with league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak has been dealt a heavy blow with a draw against King Faisal.
The in-form Inshallah side who have found joy in tormenting big opponents recently did not let the distance between the two sides on the league table decide the results at Obuasi.
Playing away from their adopted Techiman home grounds, the visitors broke the virginity of the game in the 15th minute through Ibrahim Zubairu.
Their stunned hosts who were hoping to make amends from their last week loss against rivals and now title favourites, Hearts of Oak now found themselves chasing the game heading to recess.
Both teams went into the break with Zubairu’s goal the only difference between them and that would continue till the 84th minute when striker Francis Andy Kumi netted the equalizer and the face-saving goal for Kotoko.
Late efforts from either side to secure the maximum points proved futile. The Porcupine Warriors are now two points behind the Phobians who have played a game less.
If Samuel Boadu’s side is able to hold their nerves against Ebusua Dwarfs tomorrow it will leave the Oseikrom club four points adrift of the top spot heading into the final two rounds of matches.
Kotoko will next take on Bechem United on Sunday, playing as guests. Meanwhile, King Faisal will continue their season-ending honeymoon with a home clash against Ebusua Dwarfs.
