Reece James to ‘MISS’ world cup after failing to recover from injury on time
England and Chelsea defender Reece James will not be part of Gareth Southgate England’s squad for the World Cup after the young defender failed to recover in time for the tournament which kicks off in 11 days’ time.
James has been a standout performer for both club and country but was hit with the injury during Chelsea’s Champions League match against AC Milan in Italy.
“Following the knee injury sustained in our away match against AC Milan, Reece has received treatment from the Chelsea medical department and visited a specialist this weekend,” Chelsea reported of the player’s injury.
“After consultation between all parties, Reece will now undergo a rehabilitation programme and is expected to be out for eight weeks,” the club announced.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter told reporters on Tuesday, “Reece was outside today having a little jog. I just think it’s how he responds. We don’t want to rush anything, I don’t want to put any timescales on it. That’s for him, the doctors and physios”.
However, according to The Athletic, England manager Gareth Southgate informed the player on Tuesday that he will not be part of the team going to Qatar due to the injury.
