Real Madrid ends Liverpool UCL dreams
Real Madrid ended Liverpool’s Champions League dream in a repeat of Kyiv 2018 just two days short of that faithful day when the Spanish giants strolled past the Reds thanks to goals from Gareth Bale who came on as a 61st substitute when the game was level 1-1.
Today, it was a different story though Real Madrid as four years ago, got the lead but through Vinicius Junior just a minute to the hour mark. This was after VAR denied Karim Benzema a goal in the dying end of the first half for offside.
Liverpool was the superior side in the game and had several chances to make it a better result for them but they had two things against them, wasted or stopped by Madrid guardsman Thibaut Courtois who was impressive all game long and ended with nine saves, a Champions League record.
The young Selecao’s goal stood out as the difference as Real Madrid saw off the victory in normal time with Carlo Ancelotti becoming the most successful manager in the competition’s history after securing his fourth trophy. He is now one better than Zinedine Zidane and Bob Paisley.
