Otto Addo names 55-man Black Stars provisional squad for Qatar 2022
Otto Addo has named a provisional 55-man Black Stars squad for the 2022 Qatar World Cup which kicks off in a couple of weeks’ time.
The much-anticipated squad was released today and has a blend of home-based and foreign-based players though the former is just a handful.
Asante Kotoko’s Danlad Ibrahim together with the Hearts of Oak duo of Dennis Korsaha and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh are part of the list while there are also places for the returning Jeffrey Schlupp, Joel Fameyeh and Kasim Adams Nuhu.
Thomas Teye Partey, Mohammed Kudus, the Ayew brothers, Wakaso Mubarak and Jojo Wollacott all are included as expected. Also among the goalkeepers is FC St. Gallen’s Lawrence Ati-Zigi who came under public scrutiny for his goalkeeping abilities due to a string of poor performances in the last few matches he played for the national team.
Ghana is housed in Group H with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea and will play its first match on November 24 against Portugal before taking on South Korea on November 28 and climaxing the group campaign with a big revenge match four days later against Uruguay.
The squad will be pruned down to the final 26-man squad and submitted to FIFA on or before 5 PM GMT on November 14.
