Obeng Junior saves Hearts of Oak from shocking defeat in Cape Coast

Kwadwo Obeng Junior was again in his full elements as he rescued title favourites Hearts of Oak from defeat in Cape Coast. The talisman rescued a point for the visitors to maintain their three-point lead over rivals Asante Kotoko.

Playing a day after their main title contenders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko were held to a one-all draw by local rivals King Faisal, the Phobians could not take advantage of the slip. They were rather almost shockingly punished by the Mysterious Dwarfs who beat Karela United 1-4 last time out.

Samuel Boadu’s men failed to score in the first half of the match and as they laboured to find the opener, Dwarfs went ahead and got the opener to leave the Continental Masters on the cusps of defeat for the first time since a 2-0 loss to Dreams FC in the first week of May. Dennis Korsah-Akoumah scored the match opener with five minutes to end proceedings as defeat stared the Rainbow club in the face.

However, Kwadow Obeng Junior had other ideas and was in the right place at the right moment to score the leveller deep into injury time. His goal was enough to give the Phobians a point to take back to Accra and as well avoid a defeat as the race for the title continues.

Hearts of Oak still maintain their three-point lead at the league summit over bitter rivals Asante Kotoko but would now need to collect four points from the remaining six to be crowned champions if Kotoko wins its last two matches.

The Phobians are next in action at home against city neighbours Liberty Professionals who stunned Karela United earlier today with a 3-2 victory. The Crabs would also next travel away from home to take on King Faisal in their penultimate league encounter.
