Maradona Dies Aged 60

Former Argentina national team captain Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60. The Albiceleste legend who has had an illustrious footballing career died after suffering heart attack.

Diego Armando Maradona was born in Tigre, Buenos Aires, Argentina on 30th October 1960. He dies a little under a month having celebrated his 60th birthday.

The former FC Barcelona icon’s footballing career started in his home country with Argentinos Juniors before a short stint at Boca Juniors then saw him move to Barcelona in 1984. His most memorable moments however awaited him in Naples where he became a cult hero whiles playing for local side SSC Napoli between 1984 and 1991 scoring 81 goals in over 180 appearances for the club.

He would go on to have stints with Sevilla and Newell’s Old Boys before returning to Bocas Juniors where he ended his playing career in 19997. He made a total of 491 professional appearances plundering in 259 goals across all for all clubs.

He also made 91 senior appearances for Argentina scoring 34 goals in the process. His reward for such an immense talent include the prestigious FIFA World Cup 1986, 2two Seria A titles and a host of other. He also is a winner of several individual awards including being named in the FIFA World Cup Dream Team in 2002 and as well being named the FIFA Player of the Century in 2000.

Maradona ventured into management after retiring from playing. He was in charge of the Argentina national team between 2008 and 2010 when he led them to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He managed clubs such as Racing Club, Al-Wasl and recently was with Gimnasia de La Plata in his native Argentina.
