Liberty Professionals suffer relegation to Division One after 22 years in Premier League

Liberty Professionals FC first XI pose for the squad picture in their last match of the season against King Faisal at Sogakope on July 18, 2021

Dansoman Liberty Professional have for the first time in over 20 years been relegated from the Ghana Premier League. A goalless draw at their adopted home at Sogakope sealed their fate as they join Ebusua Dwarfs and Inter Allies to go to the division one league.

Ahead of the match, the Dansoman side who were on 39 points after 33 rounds of matches needed a win to help their cause to avoid relegation. But a 0-0 stalemate against then fellow relegation candidates have decided their fate, helped by wins for Elmina Sharks and Legon Cities.

The Scientific Soccer Lads thus end the season with 40 points from 34 matches and will play in the second tier of men’s league football in the country.

Having played in the league for 22 years, they would be going down with loads of experience which can help their fight to get back to the Premier League. They however will be meeting other sides hungry for promotion such as former Premier League rivals, Tema Youth, Amidaus Professionals and Tudu Mighty Jets. Competition from newly relegated Inter Allies and others would be a heavy task for the Dansoman team to accomplish as they would seek to get back up as quickly as possible.
