Kotoko is a ‘Big name’ and not a ‘Big club’

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Mariano Barreto has stated that the club is a big name and not a big club as many people are made to believe.

The tactician said this during Nhyira FM’s sports programme, Power Sports on Thursday, August 5. During the interview, the coach spoke about a lot of things concerning his side as well as congratulating champions Hearts of Oak and noting them as the best team he has played against this season.

He said earlier that Kotoko is one of the biggest clubs in Africa whose offer you can’t reject and he felt Kotoko is trying to build to get back t their former glory and that motivated him to be excited to be in Ghana working with the Porcupine Warriors.

He added “I know Asante Kotoko fans won’t be happy with this but I must say,” he stated.

“Asante Kotoko is only a big name and not a big team because they lack so many things a big team should be having. A big team should be having their own physiotherapy room, a strong youth team, philosophy, video room amongst other infrastructure,” he added.

The Portuguese coach who calls Ghana his second home is in the 5th month of his coaching role at Kotoko. He led his side to a second-place finish in the just ended league season and also led them to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup where they lost to Berekum Chelsea on penalties.
