The British Boxing Board of Control has notified that it will investigate the controversial split decision which saw Josh Taylor retain his status as the undisputed light welterweight champion over Jack Caterall.

Josh Taylor emerged from the fight victorious despite being knocked down, cut and outpunched for much of the period, a decision that shocked many analysts who felt Catterall had done enough to annex the title.

Judge Howard Foster scored 113-112 for Catterall, Victor Loughlin scored the same but in reverse for Taylor and Ian John-Lewis scored 114-111 in favour of Taylor to hand him the victory.

A statement on Monday by the boxing governing body in Britain said, “The British Boxing Board of Control will be investigating the scoring of this contest and will advise accordingly”.

Catterall refused to talk to the media after the match according to Sky Sports while his team described him as “heartbroken” and he later posted on social media that he had his “dreams stolen”.
