Accra Hearts of Oak made light work of West African Football Academy in a match week 17 clash at the Accra Sports Stadium to move to third on the league table.

Whereas the win propelled the Phobians to third place in the league after 17 matches, the Academy Boys are consigned to 11th on the table with 22 points. It was the third win for the Phobians in four matches since the departure of Kosta Papic as first team coach and the first for Samuel Boadu.

The match started with end to end exchanges between both sides as Patrick Razak’s searching cutback narrowly was met by a WAFA defender creating a great relief for the Academy lads. The Academy Boys then threatened with a fee kick 32 metres from goal which almost led to a goal after Richard Attah fumbled with his grip of it. WAFA beaming with confidence from their win over leaders, Karela last week kept pushing for the opener forcing Attah to make top saves to keep the score line even.

Abdul Manaf’s overhead kick narrowly flew over the bar before Andrews Ntim’s power drive ensured Attah had to stretch hard to make a save which he spilled away and only got to it on the follow up run due to the absence of WAFA players nearby to punish him.

A lovely play among the Phobians in the WAFA area led to Patrick Razak meeting Raddy Ovouka’s cross to power home the opener in the 35th minute. The first half ended with Heats holding onto their lone goal lead.

The second half begun and it was Augustine Boakye’s free kick which came as the first best threat at goal from either side. Raddy Ovouka then made some skillful exchanges with Manaf before setting up Razak who skewed skywards with just the empty net at his mercy. Victor Aidoo then set up Isaac Mensah to double the Phobians lead in the 63rd minute. Fatau Mohammed then crossed for Raddy Ovouka to score with a half volley giving the Phobians a 3 – 0 lead after 75 minutes of play. Mensah drew a magnificent save from Sabi Acquah minutes later before Michelle Sarpong beat Sabi Acquah after receiving a grounded short pass from Raddy Ovouka to make it 4 – 0 in the 90th minute thus taking life out of WAFA.

The win will be a moral booster for Samuel Boadu who has replaced Kosta Papic in the hot seat of the Rainbow club. Hearts of Oak ill take on Aduana Stars in their next match and WAFA will be away to King Faisal.
