Hearts of Oak beat Kamsar to set up a date with Wydad
Accra Hearts of Oak after a six-year absence from continental football have made a gallant return to the show with a flawless victory over Guinean side, Club Industriel de Kamsar in Accra.
The Ghanaian champions unlike other teams have to play a one-off match against the Guineans following a Caf decision after the military upstaged a coup in Guinea a week before the first-leg match.
Kamsar setup to play defensively against the former champions of Africa, limited the Phobians to few opportunities in the first 45 minutes. That did not change either as the Ghanaian giants had limited chances at goal even at the start of the second half.
With all intent to end the match before the 90 minutes is over, the Phobians pushed forward more and that resulted in a goal in the 69th minute which was chalked off for a foul on the Kamsar goalkeeper before another three minutes was also chalked off for offside.
However, the Phobians could not be denied any further in the 83rd-minute when Kofi Kordzi making his competitive debut after returning from his stint in Qatar netted a a brilliant freekick goal to put Hearts ahead. Salim Adams, another new addition this season also registered his name on the scoresheet in the added time after coming on as a late substitute.
The win means the Ghanaian champions will now face Morrocan club, Wydad AC in the next round in October 15 in the first leg in Accra before a return leg a week later in Morroco.
