The goalkeeper for Mepe Peace Ladies Football Club, Mabel Mawusi Dogah has drowned in a river according to information from the Volta Regional FA.
She was travelling with her mum to Kwahu Afram Plains North when the boat in which they were travelling with other passengers capsized, resulting in her drowning, alongside her mother, sibling and four others.
A statement from the Volta Regional FA said, “Our Condolences to the entire family of Dogah, Ghana Women League and Mepe Peace Ladies FC for the demise of their daughter and goalkeeper Mabel Mawusi Dogah.”
“Mabel drowned on Thursday 14th April 2022 and her mortal remains was found later at the riverbank in Dzemeni yesterday 17th April 2022. According to their customs, She was layed to to rest same day she was found. May she rest well in the bosom of her maker.”
Mepe Peace Ladies FC is one of the teams that has signed up to compete in the Volta Regional Division One Women’s League this season.
Dogah was a member of the regional team that competed in the FA Cup eliminations to determine the competition’s representatives.
Boat travel on Volta Lake is a common mode of transportation for residents of the lake’s enclave. However, because most canoes do not have life jackets, accidents and deaths occur when bad weather occurs during the journey.
It will be recalled that six people got drowned in March last year when their canoe on the Volta Lake collapsed at Adzamansu, a community in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region. They were four females and two males.
