Sports Journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo has thrown more light on the ongoing contract standoff between the two rival clubs when the former Great Olympics moved to city rivals Hearts of Oak in the closed season.

Gladson Awako joined the league and cup champions after a stellar season in the league with the Dade boys but he is yet to turn out for his new side and has not even properly trained with them with many speculating that the contract was off.

The speculations were added more weight yesterday when Great Olympics chief, Oluboi Commodore stated that, “We had some agreements in the deal and Hearts were supposed to make full payment before a certain date”.

He explained that the particular clause was inserted in the agreement due to previous experience they [Great Olympics] had regarding player transfers to Hearts of oak.

“We had issues with Hearts of Oak in the past on player transfer and that is why we put in that clause and Hearts of Oak were not able to pay.”

However, renowned Sports Journalist with Citi FM has said if such a clause as stated by Oluboi Commodore actually exists in the agreement between the two clubs, then it is an illegality. He gave reasons why Olympics cannot terminate the contract, adding that they do not have the right to do so.

He tweeted, “Commodore goes on radio to say because Hearts of Oak failed to pay the 2nd installment of Awako’s contract sum by the due date, the player’s contract is automatically terminated. First of all, that’s not even possible.

“When a player moves to a club, two contracts are signed: Club to Club contract, and Player to Player Contract. Contracts have penalty clauses when it comes to default in payment. Nowhere in the FIFA regulations does it allow for a selling club to cancel a contract upon default.

“If that clause exists in the Oly to Hearts contract, it cannot be deemed valid. Every MA regulations must conform with FIFA regulations. Any such clause is alien to the FIFA laws.

“Second, only Hearts of Oak and the player can initiate contract termination based on the ‘player to club contract’ and as things stand, neither the club nor the player has terminated their contract so AWAKO IS STILL A HEARTS OF OAK PLAYER. END!”

This has definitely added a new twist to the already protracted contract saga of Gladson Awako, and with barely three weeks to the commencement of the new league season, it is a long wait to see what the future holds for Awako at the camp of the Ghanaian giants.

It is also interesting to note that even if Hearts of Oak contract with the player is terminated as a result of that contract, Olympics would be in a bad position to accept the player after their Twitter handle was used to make fun of the player when it was reported that the player wants his contract ended so he could return to the Dade Boys.
