CK Akonnor names 30-man provisional Black Stars for World Cup qualifiers

Blacks Stars head coach, C.K Akonnor has today named a 30-man provisional squad for 2022 World Cup African qualifiers next month.

Akonnor revealed his squad that will begin preparation for the upcoming qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa in group G. A few surprises are dotted in the squad with also some slots for home-based players including Hearts of Oak duo, Richard Atta and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.

Belgium based duo Manaf Nurudeen and Majeed Ashimeru as well under-20 sensation, Issahaku Abdul Fatawu from Steadfast FC who is the only player from the Ghanaian second-tier league.

England based Andy Yiadom, Daniel Amartey, Tariq Fosu, Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey are all included in the squad. Chelsea left-back Baba Abdul Rahman is also part of the provisional contingent.

Ghana will play Ethiopia at the Cape Coast stadium on Friday, September 3, before playing South Africa on Monday, September 6, 2021, in Johannesburg to conclude their September assignments.
