Kumasi Asante Kotoko have exited the CAF Confederation Cup at the play-offs after holding ES Setif to a goalless draw in the return fixture at 8 May 1945 Stadium in Algeria on Sunday evening.

The Algerian side has progressed to the group stages of the competition on a 2-1 aggregate score line.

The Porcupine Warriors lost the first leg 2-1 at home on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at the Accra Sports Stadium, making things complicated for them in the second leg away in Algeria.

Kotoko maintained the same starting lineup used in the first leg a week ago and defended well today, with Razak Abalora being called upon on many occasions.

Setif dominated possession in the game but could not find the back of the net with some good chances created because of the alertness at Kotoko’s back line.

The two-time CAF Champions League winners started their African campaign in the Champions League preliminary stage, progressing over Mauritanian side, FC Nouadhibou.

However, they were pushed down to CAF’s tier-two competition after losing the first leg 1-0 at home and forfeited the second leg because of COVID-19 issues.
