CAF Women’s Champions League had no prize money – Yussif Basigi makes a shocking revelation
Hasaacas Ladies coach, Yusif Basigi has revealed that upon his team reaching the finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League, there was no prize for his team for participating in the tournament as anticipated.
Speaking to Angle FM on Tuesday, the veteran tactician revealed said, “We paid for our flight. They only accommodated us and meals. During the tourney, we asked if there is prize money but the CAF officials told us they’ll get back to us. We’ve not heard from them again”.
Asked how long he’s been coaching the team, he told Angle FM “I have been coaching Hasaacas Ladies for 18 years. I’m the first coach of the team when it was formed in June 2003. I have coached all these years without a salary. My joy is seeing a lot of young girls transforming their lives through football”.
Basigi added “I work with GES. Sometimes I scout some of these girls from the hinterlands at a young age. Some are now playing professional football in Europe and making decent earnings. One lady I groomed is now building a huge hostel at her former school all through football.”
It is undoubtedly clear that Basigi is the most successful coach to lead a female team in Ghana, having won multiple titles with Hasaacas Ladies while establishing the team as the most dominant in the local arena and as well as conquering West Africa.
