Black Stars put up a strong performance to beat Zimbabwe 3-1
Ghana secured an emphatic 3-1 win over Zimbabwe on matchday three of the ongoing Fifa 2022 World Cup qualifiers. A goal in the first half and two in the second half secured the win for Coach Milovan on his return to the post he left 10 years ago.
Following a win and defeat in their last two matches in the qualifiers, the Black Stars are now playing catch to South Africa but with the win against Zimbabwe, there is some kind of hope in chasing for qualification till the end.
Mohammed Kudus shot the Stars into the lead in the 5th-minute of the first half to start what promised to be an early goal-fest. They however squandered most of the goal-scoring opportunities in the half.
Straight from the break, Zimbabwe pushed forward looking for an equalizer and that soon came albeit a penalty. Knowledge Musona expertly delivered from the spot to beat Jojo Wollacot who was starting his first game for the Black Stars.
Thomas Partey popped up in the 66th-minute to shoot the Black Stars into the lead again with a beauty of a strike that left the goalkeeper. Ghana secured the win three minutes from time when Andre Ayew sent a thumping header past Washington Arubi.
Ghana trails South Africa by a lone point after the Bafana Bafana beat Ethiopia also by a 1-3 score to maintain top position in the group. Ghana will be up against the Warriors on Tuesday in the return leg while South Africa host Ethiopia.
