Ansu Fati makes Barcelona return after a 10-months absence
After being out of action for 10 months due to a knee injury, Ansu Fati returns to the squad. Fati has been included in the squad to play against Levante on Sunday.
He has not played for the Spanish giants in 322 days, having torn the meniscus in his left knee during a 5-2 win over Real Betis last November. After undergoing three operations, Fati returned to training in August.
Since inheriting the number ten shirt from Messi, Sunday’s game at Camp Nou will offer him the chance to make his first competitive appearance. The youngster has quite a thing against Levante, in all of his two matches against them, he has netted two goals.
The new number 10 is currently Barca’s youngest goalscorer when he scored against Osasuna in 2019 at age 16. And has since added a further 12 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions for the Blaugrana, whom he joined at the age of 10.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, the teenager has opted to play for Spain and had his first international goal against Ukraine in September 2020.
Barcelona has won two and drawn three of their opening five league matches of 2021-22 and is already seven points behind leaders Real Madrid, albeit with a game in hand. Manager, Ronald Koeman is under intense pressure to uplift his team’s performance despite the high profile exit of Lionel Messi and injuries to some of the big names in his current squad.
