AFCON: Four nations in a heated race to the finals

Senegal celebrate a goal against Equatorial Guinea

The Africa Cup of Nations is nearing its conclusion with just four teams remaining in the competition.

Lots of the favourites have already been knocked out, but there are two heavyweight semi-finals to look forward to as the sides look to book their place in the final.

Host nation, Cameroon have been impressive all tournament and they made it through to the last four with a comfortable 2-0 win over the Gambia.

Cameroon will face Egypt in what is expected to be the “clash of the Titans”.

Egypt has had to battle hard to knock out Ivory Coast and then Morocco in the knockout stages. Egypt’s Captain Mohamed Salah has been outstanding for his side, doing all that he can for his team to get to the semis, with a moment of magic, he settles tight matches.

The other semi-final is between two sides who have never lifted the AFCON trophy.

Burkina Faso was second in 2013 and third in 2017 and will be looking to go even better this year, having knockout Tunisia in the quarter-finals.

Their opponent is Senegal, who put in their best display of the tournament to beat Equatorial Guinea and is looking forward to edging past the Stallions to book a consecutive final berth having lost to Algeria in the last edition.

Here’s the full fixture schedule, UK kick-off times and venues across the semi-finals.

Wednesday, February 2

Burkina Faso vs Senegal – 7 pm GMT kick-off time (Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaounde).

Thursday, February 3
