You were excluded from Parliamentary election for Akufo-Addo’s interest – Mahama tells SALL
President John Dramani Mahama after his visit to the Volta Region made his way to the Oti Region as well where bemoaned the fact the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) traditional area did not have anyone to represent them in Parliament.
According to him the Electoral Commission initially knew that SALL traditional area was supposed to join in the Hohoe district to vote but things did not turn out that way as the area was carved out of the Volta Region into the Oti Region after a referendum on the (creation of new regions ) regulations, 2018 C. I 109 in 2018 following the recommendation of the Commission of Inquiry into the creation of the six new regions.
As surprised as he was, he wondered why the electoral commission had to wait till some few weeks to the election before telling them SALL cannot join the Hohoe for the election depriving them of someone to represent in Parliament.
John Mahama considers it an injustice to the people of the community and went ahead to accuse President Akufo-Addo of underhand dealings and deliberately excluding the area from voting for parochial political interest as they knew if SALL was part of the elections they would have struggled to win the Hohoe Parliamentary seat.
However, the SALL traditional area had also been without an administrative district since 2019 when a legislative instrument was laid in Parliament by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for the creation of the Guan district till its recent inauguration to serve the traditional area on 8th October 2021 making it the 261st district in Ghana.
