Withdraw CI 126 now – NDC lawyers to Electoral Commission
The opposition National Democratic Congress legal affairs directorate has asked the Electoral Commission to take out the Constitutional Instrument making the Ghana card the only document that can be used to register people into the electoral role.
EC has already submitted the CI to Parliament and it is before the Subsidiary Legislation Committee for consideration.
The possibility of eligible voters being disenfranchised by the election management body over its insistence to use the Ghana card as the only source document to register and verify voters has met stiff resistance from the National Democratic Congress.
NDC said the current CI 126 is still relevant for voter registration hence its demand for the immediate withdrawal of the proposed CI.
Also, it urged the National Identification Authority to expedite action for most Ghanaians to acquire their Ghana Card.
Some recommendations were therefore made during the party’s annual lawyers conference which was from August 27 to Monday, August 29, 2022, at Aqua Safari, Ada and had Mrs Betty Mould Iddrissu and Mr Abraham Amaliba as co-chairs.
Personalities that made an appearance at the conference included former President John Dramani Mahama, who was the Special guest, Tsatsu Tsikata, the Keynote Speaker; NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo; NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew; former Finance Minister; Prof. Kwesi Botchway, among others.
