We do not support coup d’etats – Samuel Ofosu Ampofo
Elder Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress has emphatically stated that the NDC is not interested in overthrowing the government through the barrel of a gun and do not approve of any coup attempt in Ghana.
In recent times some words of caution have come from a section of Ghanaians about a possible coup in Ghana following developments in the West African Sub Region.
Addressing a meeting of NDC supporters in the USA, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo affirmed that the NDC as a party only believes in the democratic removal of a government through the ballot box.
“We birthed that constitution and for that matter, we will be the last to do anything to undermine that constitutional order.”
“We are not interested in coup d’état. We are interested in using the democratic process of using the thumb of the people to remove Nana Akufo-Addo and incompetent Bawumia from office,” Mr Ofosu Ampofo said.
Military interventions became topical in Ghana after Mali, Guinea, and most recently, Burkina Faso saw the overthrow of governments by the military.
As it stands now, there are two different trials ongoing against persons charged with treason-related offences because of alleged coup plots.
Mr Oliver Barker-Vormawor convener of #FixTheCountry was recently charged with treason felony after he made comments on social media that have been deemed to be a coup threat.
Also, ten persons including three civilians, six military personnel, and a senior police officer are also facing charges of treason felony and conspiracy to commit treason felony.
