Stephen Asamoah Boateng, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the position of National Chairman, has alleged that certain candidates are buying delegates to sway their votes.

He claimed that certain potential candidates for the chairmanship are buying the votes of the delegates.

“People are going behind me with money. They want to buy your votes. They are using money now and when they finish they cannot come to you”.

He explained that he gave money to some delegates to cater for their transportation expenses.

“I only gave them T&T three times, about 150,150 and 100,” he stated.

Speaking on what sets him apart from the other candidates, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, stated that while others are buying votes, he is the only candidate the delegates can trust.

He, charged the delegates to vote for a chairman who is focused and capable of leading the Breaking-the-8 Agenda.

“Please stay focused. Remember 2024, you need a Chairman that is focused and has energy,” he appealed.

One of the top candidates for the chairperson is Mr Asamoah Boateng. He is expected to win, according to several commentators.

Sammy Crabbe, George Abankwah-Yeboah, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Akwasi Ntim, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, and Gifty Asantewaa Ayeh are his rivals and they are poised to lead the party after today’s election for the next four years.

Vote buying still poses a threat to Ghana’s democracy because it seriously undermines both the credibility of elected officials and free and fair elections.

Claims of vote buying are regular and the situation gets worse and comes up every election year and in practically every local and institutional election in Ghana since it has almost completely permeated the electoral process.

The need for comprehensive monitoring of the issue of vote buying during campaigns has been emphasized by numerous political players and leaders of civil society organizations but no sufficient action has been implemented to stop or at least minimize it.
