A protest against the controversial Electronic transaction levy against the government is in the offing as the opposition NDC has served notice of the intended protest.

The protest by the National Demonstration Congress dubbed “Yentua Demonstration” is scheduled for February 10 2022 and will commence at 7:00 am in the morning at Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle,” the youth wing of the opposition party revealed in a notice to the police.

The notice also indicates that the protest in Accra on February 10 will be the first of many demonstrations to be replicated across other parts of the country.

If this protest turns out successful, it will be the first major mass action against the controversial tax that many social commentators say is a killer tax.

The 1.7% E-Levy when passed will be charged on mobile money and other electronic transactions.

Many experts have advised the Nana Akufo-Addo administration to scrap the proposed tax since it will increase the hardship triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
