Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress, according to its Director of Elections Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is ready for the 2024 elections.

“We are preparing feverishly to recapture power to save the country from what it is going through,” he said

Mr Afriyie Ankrah who himself is seeking to elevate his portfolio in the party by targeting the General Secretary position in the ongoing internal elections stressed that the youthful base of the party is key to its success.

He expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the upcoming polls saying “we believe we are strategically positioned to win the election if we do our homework well”.

Lashing out at the ruling New Patriotic Party, the NDC stalwart said “they have broken our country and it is virtually in a coma this government has failed us”.

He also posited that “the galamsey menace is an epitome of the government’s failure,” adding that “the country is bleeding and needs to be stabilized”.

Mr Ankrah also rubbished the blames by the government on Covid-19 having watched government officials repeated put the sorry economic state of the country to the effects of the pandemic. “We had a crisis but solved it better,” in reference to the Ebola outbreak.

He also stated that, unlike Ghana, none of the countries in the subregion is performing this abysmally.

Laughing off their fight against illegal mining, he accused the ruling party of using proceeds from their galamsey activities to fund the party to pay their way through the election.

He also accused the NPP of giving the new mining equipment that has a new technology in mining and saves the environment to their party apparatchiks, concluding that “this government is an utter failure”.
