Minority leader  Hon Haruna Iddrisu and the Minority Caucus in Parliament have expressed concerns over Parliament’s ability to carry out its oversight functions.

These issues were enumerated during a meeting with the Parliamentary Press Corps. They cited instances where short notice of meetings and deliberations process to pass major economic reforms or to secure loans for the country.

The caucus indicated the need for more deliberations, due diligence backed by reports for Ghana to get value for money in such instances.

Another issue the caucus raised was the fracas that commemorated the moment Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin became Speaker of the Eighth Parliament of the fourth republic. Of special note is when the soldiers entered the chamber of parliament. Hon Haruna Iddrisu said “the issue was shameful and could best be described as a parliamentary coup d’etat which should not happen again.”
